2025 Outlook webinar: Palm oil at the crossroads
We are hosting our first webinar of 2025. We will take you through some of the highlights and lowlights of 2024, some major topics for this year, and explain how Palmoil.io will help you address them.
2024 was a bruising year for rainforests. To dig into some of setbacks and explain how we can move forward in 2025, join us for a webinar on January 15 2025. Our founder, Leo Bottrill, will take stock of where we are and guide us through some ideas on what can be done.
What happened in 2024?
2024 saw spiking palm oil-related deforestation rates, a one year delay to the EUDR, the vetoing of NY State Trees Act, and the election of political leaders who - and we are being generous here - are skeptical of climate change. This leaves the palm oil industry at the crossroads between business as usual or a decisive turn towards sustainability. The start of 2025 gives us a new opportunity to look at where we are, examine the emerging issues, and explain how Palmoil.io plans to meet them.
Will deforestation rates increase in 2025?
Palm oil-related deforestation went up markedly in 2023. We will give some preliminary figures for 2024 and give an indication on where we thing deforestation rates might head this year. We will also share some insights courtesy of our new VDF/NDPE tracking system and our EUDR Ratings.
How can the grievance process be strengthened?
The widespread adoption of grievance tracking makes palm oil unique among other major commodities but is this making a difference? With arguably the most comprehensive grievance database available, Palmoil.io has a birds-eye view on what types of grievances are being filed, how they are being addressed, and whether they are being resolved. We will share a few ideas on how we can streamline grievance responses and track progress.
What can jurisdictions tell us about palm oil?
Our long awaited jurisdictional dashboard is about to launch, starting with Indonesia. Our jurisdictional dashboard initially covers 38 provinces, 7305 districts, and 83,399 desas. Our jurisdictional dashboard aims to give our users rich insights into not only the deforestation picture, but also grievances, companies operating and sourcing, as well as areas of planted palm. Perhaps most critically, jurisdictions can also tell us about how smallholders are performing. We will share a couple of interesting stats that we can already see and explain how the dashboards can help companies both screen and monitor potential jurisdictional or landscape investments.
What's in the 2025 pipeline?
We have a host of new features and data lined up. We will have new plots, a new estimated traceability model, and in depth EUDR risk assessments. We will also share some of our ideas how to make Palmoil.io's rich data and analytics more digestible and hopefully, more impactful.
We anticipate 2025 will be another tough year for forests. That's why we are doubling down and ensuring Palmoil.io provides the most robust, objective, and comprehensive palm oil risk analysis available on the market. We are excited to have so many new companies and organizations subscribe to our service and hope you will join us next Wednesday to learn how we can help you prepare for a potentially turbulent 2025.
