Palmoil.io Newsletter - November 2022
What's New?
Palmoil.io at RT2022!
In a couple of weeks, the Palmoil.io will be participating in our very first RSPO RT conference. The conference is being held in Kuala Lumpur from November 28-30 and will the first in-person global event since the Covid pandemic. RT2022 should be a fantastic opportunity to meet colleagues working in all areas of sustainable palm oil and discuss a range of pressing issues facing the industry. Palmoil.io will be showcasing our platform, providing demos and risk assessments, and answering any questions you may have about our service.
Visit our booth and take a risk assessment
Palmoil.io will also be exhibiting at the RT2022. Our team will be at the booth to answer all of your answer questions as well as offering supply chain risk assessments. Our risk assessment demonstrates how we can trace supply chains to the plantation and identify high risk concessions and mills, unresolved grievances, and suspended suppliers. This will give you the insights that you need to begin preparing for the upcoming EU Deforestation Regulation. You can book a time here at the conference at https://calendly.com/maphubs.
Test your knowledge with Sustainable Palm Oil quiz
Think you know all there is to know about sustainable palm oil? Put your knowledge to the test with our interactive quiz. We will have a range of questions to test your palm oil knowhow. Winners will receive a limited edition Palmoil.io t-shirt and everyone gets a Palmoil.io hologram sticker ;)
Meet our Team!
Palmoil.io is growing! Last month, we welcomed four members of our new Indonesia office. Maria, Stephanie, our new Community Liaison Manager, and our Community Liaison Officers, Citra Benazir and Cholida Sofi, and Luthfan Mursyidan, our Front-end Developer.
Stephanie is a seasoned environmental project manager with a background in circular economy and engineering. She will be leading our Indonesia team, supporting our customers and overseeing development of a Palmoil.io training program. Citra is our technical writer extraordinaire. With a degree in Creative Writing, Citra brings substantial experience working on various social justice causes in Indonesia. Sofi, our Data Analyst, has worked in two facets of palm oil industry - plantations and smallholders. Sofi's geospatial expertise and insider knowledge will further enhance Palmoil.io's strong mapping capabilities. With a background in Fintech, Luthfan's coding wizardry will help us find new and creative ways to display our supply chain information and company dashboards.
Malaysia Concessions are live!
At long last, our Malaysia concessions are now live in Palmoil.io! Our new database will provide traceability to plantation for thousands of concessions in Peninsula Malaysia, Sarawak, and Sabah. We used a diverse set of open data sources and in-house expertise to trace concessions, which will help our subscribers monitoring at the plantation scale in both Indonesia and Malaysia.
Our Malaysia concessions map will flag deforestation risks, suspension violations, and aid preparations for the upcoming traceability requirements of the EU deforestation regulation. Our enterprise customers will receive monthly risk insights and access to our dedicated version of Forest Report with plantation level statistics.
New pricing tiers
To make Palmoil.io's features more accessible, we have created two new pricing tiers. Our new Business tiers is designed for downstream companies with total PO volume of less than 25,000 tons/year to access our full platform including our monthly risk insights. This is ideal for consumer goods companies and derivative buyers who want deeper insights into risks in their supply chain such as monthly insight reports, supplier information, and tracks grievances and news stories. And "Producer Tier" is designed to provide insights to smaller upstream millers, plantation companies, and smallholder cooperatives who want insights into deforestation occurring inside their estate. All the details on pricing can be found here.
What's coming up?
Make your own Palmoil.io dashboard
If you have not yet published a palm mill list or would like review risks before publishing it, you will soon be able to load your mill lists into private portfolio and build a full dashboard. Palmoil.io will automatically analyze your mills for deforestation, trace them to likely concessions, and link your grievances. Your custom dashboard will automatically update every month when we add new deforestation alerts, grievaces, and supplier information.
Palmoil.io Polygon uploader
One feature many of subscribers have asked for is a polygon uploader. We listened. Starting in 2023, you will be to upload polygons of farm boundaries and HCV areas into your private portfolio. Palmoil.io will then analyze all polygons for recent and historical deforestation and estimate traceability to nearby mills. We hope this tool will help upstream companies screen existing and potential suppliers for EU deforestation compliance. If you are interesting in trialing this feature, please get in touch.
Tip of the Month
Not a fan of our black background? No problem. Just click on the 'moon' icon and voila, the site turns white. This is a brand new feature, so please give it a go and send us your feedback.
Case of the month
The case this month comes to Peninsula Malaysia. With our new Malaysia concession database, we are now able to monitor 4,850+ more concessions each month and this risk insight shows large industrial deforestation occurring inside Lepar Hilir 5 estate. We estimate that over 1,000 ha of forest has been lost since December 2020, which would raise potential EU regulatory compliance risks for anyone sourcing from mills it supplies. We link 55 traders, refiners, and buyers to the likely supplying mill. Sign up at palmoil.io/pricing to learn more and receive more risk insights.
