Palmoil.io Goes to IPOC 2023
The Palmoil.io team attended the 19th Indonesian Palm Oil Conference and 2024 Price Outlook in Bali, Indonesia hosted by the Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association (GAPKI). At our booth we talked to attendees about our tools for EUDR, about smallholder mapping, and other challenges currently faced by the industry
Two weeks ago, the Palmoil.io team attended our first IPOC Conference at the Westin Resort Nusa Dua in Bali, Indonesia. Meeting people from all parts of the palm oil industry was exciting, from refiners to traders, from banks to consultants; the team enjoyed their conversations most from the conference. As a mapping and monitoring company, it was refreshing to hear from our peers who work in the field and assist smallholder farmers with their firsthand experiences.
Palmoil.io at the IPOC 2023 Exhibition
We definitely made a splash at the exhibition, hoping to leave a lasting impression on everyone who came by our booth, from the bright lights of our neon pink palm tree. It quickly became the "instagrammable" selfie location, drawing the attention of many passersby, who frequently came to congratulate the team.
It wasn’t surprising to us that from the many conversations the team had with attendees, EU Regulation on deforestation-free supply chains perhaps loomed the largest. At our booth, we demonstrated to attendees how Palmoil.io can help screen suppliers, identify high risk mills and concessions, and prioritize areas for smallholder engagement. We also previewed the latest addition to our software, Palmoil.io Plot Check, which is a new tool to analyze private plots for deforestation, grievances and Risk Insights without loading them to our server. The Conversation around EUDR
We attended the EUDR afternoon session and heard from Indonesian and GAPKI members about their many concerns and challenges. The most significant are the implications for smallholders and the data challenges of collecting geolocation data with less than 14 months to implement. Palmoil.io is developing solutions to assist with mapping smallholders and completing deforestation checks. We intend to provide more information about our plans for 2024 and EUDR in the near future.
On to the next
The team very much enjoyed our first IPOC and appreciated GAPKI’s hospitality in hosting a wide-array of companies within the oil palm industry. This really created an opportunity to meet and learn from each other.
But it doesn’t stop there! The team is heading to RSPO RT 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia on November 20th-22nd, 2023. We will be demoing our latest features and are ready for more conversations, especially on how Palmoil.io can help your company comply with EUDR. See you there, make sure you stop by and say hi! We’ll be at the booth with the pink palm tree neon light!
