Upcoming Webinar: Introducing Jurisdictional Landscape Dashboard

It has been a long time coming, but we are finally launching our Jurisdictional Landscape Dashboard or as we call it, "JLD". To kick things off, we are holding two webinars on Wednesday, April 16th at 09:00 EDT / 15:00 CEST (register) and Thursday, April 17th at 10:00 WIB / 11:00 MYT (register). Here's a quick overview of what JLD offers.

What's the goal of JLD?

Simply put, to provide transparency in jurisdictional initiatives. Ranging from a few villages to entire provinces, we have documented over 31 jurisdictional and landscape projects in Indonesia alone, and a number of them overlap. Despite their growing popularity, these initiatives rarely publicly disclose information, leaving most stakeholders with only top level deforestation statistics from public forest monitoring sites. This makes assessing both the benefits and risks of jurisdictional initiatives a major challenge.

So what is JLD?

Indonesia in JLD

JLD is new dashboard in Palmoil.io that monitors deforestation, palm supply chains and grievances at the jurisdictional level. Our first country is Indonesia, and JLD currently monitors all provinces, regencies, districts, and villages. The goal is to provide timely and accurate jurisdictional maps and stats for forest loss, production, GHG emissions, and buyer information, so investors can make informed investment decisions. JLD also helps project developers track progress and evaluate jurisdictions for future projects.

Here is what you can do:

1) Monthly and annual deforestation statistics

Annual tree cover loss stats for every jurisdiction including maps and a year slider

Every jurisdiction features monthly deforestation alerts (RADD and GLAD) as well as annual Tree Cover Loss statistics. For example, you can select and sort all the jurisdictions to see which have the highest or lowest alerts or loss in a given month or year. Every jurisdiction also receives a DCF percentage, which is based on forest and peat loss after the widely used NDPE December 2015 cut-off date.

2) HCS, Peat, Planted Palm, and GHG emissions

Annual GHG Emissions for every jurisdiction

You can analyze risks in a jurisdiction with a range of other stats. We have 2020 HCS statistics, planted palm by year, GHG emissions, remaining peat, and annual GHG emission statistics. These stats should prove helpful for identifying jurisdictions that meet GHG targets, no peat conversion policies, or identifying jurisdictions with high palm production and low deforestation risks.

3) Expert-produced Risk Insight reports

Palmoil.io features almost 2,500 Risk Insights with more added every month

Evidence is key to accountability, which is why every month, we produce expert-reviewed deforestation reports called Risk Insights. You can now find Risk Insights linked by jurisdiction. The reports feature high resolution satellite imagery documenting deforestation events, their causes, and their supply chain.

4) Track grievances

Beyond just forest impacts, we have linked our peerless grievance database to JLD. You can now track over 2,350 grievances at the jurisdictional level, identifying new and updated cases from forced labor violations and indigenous land conflicts. New grievances and updates available every month.

5) Supply Chain traceability

We also document companies buying from every jurisdiction and help you trace their supply chains to surrounding plots. This assists project developers find potential investors and investors track potential risks to both the plot and smallholder level.

6) Smallholder monitoring

Desa, which means village in Indonesia, typically consist of a few villages, making them a valuable size for analyzing the smallholders. JLD helps you identify smallholders areas with high volumes of planted palm and low deforestation risk. This is potentially valuable insight for project developers looking to engage smallholders with mapping and extension services. To help identify smallholders at high or low risk for EUDR compliance, we also have EUDR ratings.

7) EUDR Article 10/11 Assessment

EUDR Ratings for desas

JLD provides insights into where your EUDR risks are at a provincial or regional scale. It can help you the assess both EUDR legal and conversion risks as well as the companies that operate and source from the area.

This first webinar is designed to introduce JLD to our existing customers as well as anyone curious. We will give you a live demo of JLD, show a couple of example jurisdictions, and talk a little about our next steps. There should also be some time for questions. As with all Palmoil.io features, we have designed JLD to be super easy to navigate and find what you are looking for. No PhDs in GIS or remote sensing required.

We also offer one month free trials to anyone who wants to give it a go. Contact us for a demo at info (at) maphubs.com. And webinar again is Wednesday, April 16th at 09:00 EDT / 15:00 CEST (register) and Thursday, April 17th at 10:00 WIB / 11:00 MYT (register).

Our jurisdictional dashboard was generously supported, in part, by a grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
