Palmoil.io Newsletter - November/December 2023

Palmoil.io has had a busy two months both on the road and in the code. We were in Bali for the GAPKI IPOC Conference and followed by our team retreat, before heading back to Jakarta for RSPO RT2023. We have added new GHG Emission data and our EUDR plot check tool. We plan to start 2024 with a bang, so look out for a major Palmoil.io update early in the new year and our Palmoil.io Outlook Webinar on January 24, 2024.

Palmoil.io in Bali

The team visits The Blanco Renaissance Museum in Bali, Indonesia

We finally had time to sit down with each other after a successful run at the IPOC 2023 conference and plan out our year ahead. In early November, the Palmoil.io team spent ten days in Bali for our company retreat. We not only got to work together in person, which we look forward to every year, but we also got to spend time together exploring Bali. We visited Gunung Kawi Temple, also known as The Valley of the Balinese Kings, an 11th-century temple and funerary complex in Tampaksiring, Bali, north east of Ubud. We also visited Ubud's Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, which is home to approximately 1260 monkeys. Then, of course, we all went on a souvenir shopping spree for our loved ones at home!

Palmoil.io goes to IPOC and RT2023

Palmoil.io attended two conferences in November: RSPO's RT2023 (which, as you may already be aware, focuses on sustainability and innovations in the palm oil sector) and IPOC 2023, which was organized by GAPKI (Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association) and brought together all the various stakeholders in the palm oil industry. We enjoy attending conferences because it allows us to introduce Palmoil.io to meeting our current subscribers in person, show our product to prospective subscribers and to learn from other industry participants. Keep an eye out for more Palmoil.io appearances at upcoming events!

Palmoil.io’s First Feature Webinar on EUDR Plot Check

Palmoil.io Feature Highlight Webinar: EUDR Plot Check

We hosted our first Palmoil.io Feature Webinar last week, which you can watch on demand, both the English Session and Indonesian Session. We looked into the recently released EUDR Plot Check, a tool for analyzing private plots for deforestation, grievances, and Risk Insights. It evaluates plot borders without requiring direct data sharing with us and provides insights for EUDR due diligence compliance assessments. This plot check tool is the first of several EUDR compliance tools from Palmoil.io, and if you'd like to learn more about our plans for 2024, particularly in terms of EUDR, join our 2024 Outlook Webinar on January 24, 2024 at 10am CET, and register here. All Palmoil.io Enterprise, Business, and Producer subscribers may now use Plot Check. Please contact us if you are interested in a one-month free trial.

Carbon GHG Emission Data added to Palmoil.io’s Plot Check

GHG emissions 2001-2022 data added to Plot Check

As you are probably aware, Palmoil.io has launched a new feature called Plot Check - the first of many EUDR compliance tools. Plot Check analyzes deforestation, overlapping areas, grievances, and traceability without requiring data upload. The good news keeps on coming. We just added Carbon Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data into the Plot Check, letting you know the number of emissions occurring between 2011 and 2022, as well as data that shows the change in global greenhouse gas emissions over time within our map. Plot Check is available to Palmoil.io subscribers for free for one month. For more information on Plot Check and other features, please contact Palmoil.io.

2024 Palmoil.io Outlook Webinar

Join us for Palmoil.io 2024 Outlook Webinar

To kick off the new year, on Wednesday, January 24 2023, we will host an Outlook Webinar to discuss our goals for EUDR. We will quickly describe the many tools and features that are being developed as part of a comprehensive due diligence and risk mitigation solution. We are also developing an EU forest baseline map to identify high-risk areas that are already compliant. Furthermore, with Palmoil.io, we are establishing a "Universal Plot Registry" to produce unique signatures and IDs for each plot uploaded, allowing for speedier check-ins for future shipments containing that plot. More information will be released soon.

New EU Forest Map

EU: Global map of Forest Cover for year 2020

The European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) has released their Global map of forest cover 2020. It is designed to meet the EUDR cutoff date and definition of forest. We are working to add this to Palmoil.io and the Plot Check tool. Along with the other data layers, this help allow us to identify areas that did not have forest at the cutoff. We’ll also find areas with both forest and post-cutoff tree cover loss. The JRC forest map - like all remote sensing products - needs to be treated with caution. The analytics derived from the EU Forest map and other data layers will carefully reviewed by our expert analysts before inclusion in our EUDR Risk Insights reports.

Sort & Filter Deforestation Alerts in Mills and Plots Data

Did you know that yearly deforestation alerts can be sorted by mills and plots? We know we have a lot of data when you open any existing tables in Palmoil.io, and that certainly applies to the data we have for mills and plots. Simply scroll through the table to find Alerts for 2021-2023 as well as separate columns for each year, then use the arrows on the top row to sort through which numbers you want to look at.
