Palmoil.io Newsletter - June 2025
Palmoil.io launched Plot Check Pro to let users save plots and create detailed reports. The EUDR Compliance Collective (ECC) now offers easy risk assessments. Malaysia data was added to the Jurisdictional Dashboard, with Thailand next. Also new: Risk Insight map boundaries.

What’s new?
Plot Check Pro
Over the past few months, we have quietly been building perhaps the most powerful tool in the Palmoil.io tool box - Plot Check Pro. Customer feedback guided our efforts to offer both a way to upload and save plot data and publish custom plot reports. Plot Check Pro now gives our Enterprise customers the ability to save, publish, and share unlimited custom reports. This will support both their EUDR compliance efforts and provide assurance documentation to their customers.
How it works

- Plot Check Pro uploads plot boundaries (e.g. geojson) and saves them as shipments.

- Uploaded plots can then be analyzed for EUDR deforestation and legal risk. The check includes deforestation, remaining forest as well as overlapping permits (e.g., HGU), protected areas, and indigenous people's territories. It screens plots against our grievance database for legal risks such as human rights violations and labor conflicts.

- Once the analysis has been completed, a custom report of the results can be downloaded as a PDF, featuring your company logo. Reports may be shared as part of an EUDR compliance audit or with customers, so they have official record.
Shipments are saved, so you can rerun a new check for updated deforestation and legal check information. This ensures that your reports will always be up to date.
In August, we will host a webinar, give a full overview of Plot Check Pro. Follow us on LinkedIn for webinar dates, etc - https://www.linkedin.com/company/maphubs/
EUDR Compliance Collective (ECC) Launch Recap

Last Wednesday, we launched the EUDR Compliance Collective. Our founder and CEO, Leo Bottrill, was joined by ECC Advisor and former Global Procurement Director for Oleochemicals, Dr Tobias Zobel. Leo opened with an introduction to ECC and explained how the Collective offers zero-effort EUDR risk assessments and risk mitigation services to EU operators and non-operators.

Leo explained how because palm supply chains are intertwined, so risks are shared between many operators. Same supply chains = same risks. The ECC collaborative approach helps companies coordinate their response through our tracking and mitigation process. This reduces duplication and costs.

Leo also pointed out that that there are currently hundreds of EUDR deforestation and legal risks cases that require mitigation. He explained how ECC will prioritize and mitigate cases, depending on their likelihood of being converted or traceability. Tobias followed Leo and gave some firsthand experiences using Palmoil.io to mitigate risks in BASF's supply chain. He saw ECC as a valuable addition to the meeting the challenges of EUDR compliance.

Malaysia in Jurisdictional Landscape Dashboard

Starting in July, Malaysia data will be available in Palmoil.io’s Jurisdictional Landscape Dashboard! We’re excited to expand the dashboard with this important addition. As the world’s second-largest producer and exporter of palm oil after Indonesia, Malaysia brings more context to your supply chain analysis, particularly for smallholder monitoring.
Just like with the Indonesia dashboard, you will be able to explore data from the provincial to village level (Mukim’s in Malaysia), including EUDR risks, RADD/GLAD alerts, tree cover loss, DCF/NDPE data, and more. You’ll also have access to mills, plots, Risk Insights, and grievance records. The dashboard includes high-level deforestation and grievance summary tables, so you can quickly assess key percentages and filter by specific grievance issues.
What’s coming up?
Thailand in Jurisdictional Landscape Dashboard

With Indonesia and Malaysia data well underway in our Jurisdictional Landscape Dashboard, we will be working towards adding Thailand. To refresh your memory, this jurisdictional landscape dashboard will allow our subscribers to evaluate supply chain risk, including deforestation, monitor ongoing jurisdictional initiatives, screen jurisdictions for possible investment (e.g., high remaining forest, high deforestation), and evaluate EUDR/NDPE risk. This is fitting, as Thailand, the world’s third-largest producer of palm oil, will contribute significant data to support your supply chain insights. Stay tuned! We’ll continue updating both you and the dashboard as new data becomes available.
Meet the Team
Luthfan, Front End Engineer

With over five years of experience in front-end web and mobile development, Luthfan is one of the minds behind the user interfaces and dashboards at MapHubs. He’s a programmer who likes learning and constantly looks to improve his technical abilities. Before joining us, Luthfan worked at PT Boost Indonesia, where he developed single-page mobile applications and helped improve performance across a suite of React and React Native features.
His path to MapHubs came from a need to branch out beyond fintech and into a field of a much broader scale. That journey led him to our team—where he quickly dove into one of his favorite projects so far: the Jurisdictional Landscape Dashboard. It is a complex and comprehensive tool with a lot of moving parts, and Luthfan played a key role in building its functionality and ensuring it works smoothly for our subscribers.
What excites him most about his work here? The combination of technical growth and improving his English. “I enjoy getting new knowledge in programming and having the chance to practice English in real situations,” he says. It’s a win-win that feeds both his career and personal development.
Outside of coding, Luthfan has a fun quirk: he sometimes still has trouble telling left from right (you’re not alone, Luthfan!). And when it’s time to unwind, he turns to Gintama—his top anime pick for its perfect blend of humor, emotion, and life lessons. As he puts it, “It’s to fill an empty soul.”
Tip of the month
Risk Insight boundaries shown in maps
Risk Insight boundaries show in the maps when you zoom in
We've added something new to our maps! Now, when you zoom in on any Palmoil.io map, whether in the Global Dashboard or the Jurisdictional Landscape Dashboard, you'll see Risk Insight boundaries. (Available exclusively to subscribers with unlimited Risk Insights.) This should help you not only locate the exact area covered by a Risk Insight Report, but also see how its boundaries overlap with your plot, making it easier to pinpoint exactly where changes are occurring.
EUDR
The Importance of Mitigation
Risk Mitigation is arguably the most important component of the EUDR and perhaps the most neglected by operators and their customers. While Due Diligence statements get most of the attention, the requirement to submit only planted areas has made compliance under Article 9 largely a box-ticking exercise. Risk mitigation is anything but.
Under Article 11, The EUDR requires all operators to conduct thorough country and supplier risk assessments and any non-negligible risk requires a mitigation strategy. Almost the entire palm supply chain entering the EU comes from Standard risk countries, which means that at least 3% of all shipments will be checked, so their is a high chance your risk mitigation approach will be scrutinized.
Thinking beyond the plot

Mitigation means thinking beyond the plot. To understand risk, you will need to analyze not just the plantation area but also the surrounding vicinity for deforestation and legal risk. For example, a plot inside an industrial permit area may be deforestation free but another plot inside the same permit may have been cleared and converted. Palmoil.io estimates a quarter of all mills are currently sourcing from permits with high conversion risk. This means that if any of them supply the EU next year, you will need to have a mitigation strategy in place. We also estimate that there are over 350 EU-linked legal risk cases, most of which are already in the public domain. This means any of them could be scrutinized by a competent authority.
We make risk mitigation simple
We launched the EUDR Compliance Collective (ECC) last month, to make risk mitigation as fast and affordable as possible. Drawing upon Palmoil.io's unparalleled global plot to mill deforestation analytics, traceability, and grievance monitoring, we have have identified and rated hundreds EUDR compliance risks, requiring mitigation. On behalf of our members, we engage suppliers, collect evidence, and work to reduce risks of non-compliance.
